Building confidence with visibility is a multi-layered onion. There are many layers to peel, starting with how you sound or look like.

The next layer is uncovering the many reasons for the fear of being judged, the reasons for your insecurities about the acceptance of your ideas and opinions, which leads to being scared to put yourself out there. This period of inertia and procrastination can be felt over several years.

Years spent being scared or making time excuses when ripping the bandaid off and just starting would save you years of regret of not having started sooner.

But what if the pain of staying the same has outgrown the pain of change, and you are ready to take the next step? Having been there myself, here are 3 ways to build confidence with visibility if you are starting out that will help make the transition a little easier and much faster.

Build self-awareness of the style that works for you

To do that, build in private first. I spent 18 months taking videos of myself, talking in the mirror, and projecting my voice, which was my path. Recognize that your journey will be different. But if you want a taste of what that feels like over 5 days, you can get the details of my building self-confidence on video guide in your inbox.

Take a moment to reflect on your strengths. Are you naturally more aligned with writing? Or are conversations more your thing? Are you a good presenter? These are all questions you need to ask yourself to decide where to begin your visibility journey.

What might start off as a blog might soon end up being an email, a social media post and then a video. Or in the case of a podcast, an email, a social media post and a video. As you gain traction, it becomes clearer, and motion does bring clarity. Similarly, a podcast series where you don’t have to commit to doing podcasts every single week might be a good place to start. You can grow your visibility slowly over time.

Commit to a process to build confidence with visibility

Procrastination is the killer of many dreams. The best time to start was yesterday, and the next best time is now.

I just was not sure what I was going to say or write when I first ‘unstarted.’ Unstarted is a term I used to define a state of being. I had officially started, but I was too afraid to put myself out there for fear of judgment and the feeling that my ideas were not novel or interesting. That I had nothing to contribute even though my mind was bursting full of ideas every day. So I’ll say it again, procrastination can be the killer of many dreams. Don’t be a statistic.

I get it, it’s a big leap change, and you do have to be mentally ready to step into the next phase.

Whether you are just starting out your visibility journey or are contemplating what’s next, commit to a low-involvement process first. Committing to a process might mean a decision about starting something small and putting it in your calendar on a weekly basis. This micro action will help drive the reason for showing up. Sundays are my writing day. But I didn’t feel like it on Sunday. Instead, I’m allowing for writing on a Monday. Stuff and life happens; learn to forgive yourself and finish what you have started by committing to a process that will help build confidence with visibility.

Surround yourself with a community

“Be part of a tribe, a group, a community where the new norm is the expected norm” – Amy Porterfield.

I have seen the results of this firsthand with the small community we had of people interested in increasing their visibility together. Why? Because together is better than alone.

The chances of behavior change are higher if you witness the successes of others. That helps you confidently move forward, knowing you are not the only one feeling that way.

If you want to take your visibility to the next level, invest in yourself to embrace your voice and face your fears with a program designed to take you from feeling like you are cringe to confident with visibility and messaging in a safe space.
